ELAB, Inc., headquartered at 8 East Tower Circle in Ormond Beach Florida, has over 65 employees serving clients from three convenient locations including its headquarters and main laboratory, located in Ormond Beach, Florida, its Service Center / Branch Laboratory located in Tampa, Florida and through our local Branch Manager in Jacksonville, Florida. ELAB, Inc., formerly doing business as "Envirolab", started its operations in 1974 to provide analytical support services to the clients of its parent environmental engineering company: Briley-Wild & Associates.
In 1993 ELAB's parent company was sold and the laboratory operation split off and became a totally independent company. In 1994, ELAB, Inc. moved into its current custom-designed 11,000 sq ft. laboratory facility located in the Ormond Beach Airport Business Park. ELAB Inc.'s Florida operation has a diverse client base including many major counties / municipalities, consulting firms, the US Navy, US EPA, the bottled water industry, utilities, other laboratories and private industries.
In June 1998, ELAB, Inc. was directly approved by the US EPA to perform drinking water chemistry analysis under the EPA's Information Collection Rule. This allowed the company to offer municipal clients additional testing services for disinfection by-products. ELAB, Inc. continued expanding its environmental and drinking water certifications, which allows the company to perform testing in many states around the US and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Through thirty years of steady growth, ELAB, Inc. has evolved from a single small internal laboratory to one of the top fifty commercial environmental laboratories in the US. In addition to the environmental services it performs in Florida, its Ormond Beach laboratory has become one of the premier drinking water testing laboratories in the nation.
In late 1999, ELAB, Inc. purchased another environmental laboratory, ELAB of Tennessee LLC (now Empirical Laboratories LLC) from Brown and Caldwell. That laboratory, which specializes in providing analytical services to Department of Defense Contractors and for Superfund type projects, was later purchased from ELAB, Inc. in 2004 and that laboratory is now classified as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB). Although they are no longer part of the same company, ELAB Inc. and Empirical Laboratories, LLC still provide laboratory support services to each other on a subcontract basis.
ELAB, Inc. expanded its services in 2003 to include a convenient service center in the Tampa area near the intersection of I-4 and I-75. That center offers delivery of sample kits and pickup of samples / coolers for clients in the greater Tampa Bay area including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, and Pasco Counties. In late 2004, additional space was leased at this service center location to start a NELAC accredited environmental laboratory facility for processing samples with short holding times, which opened in 2006.
In December 2004, ELAB, Inc. also added a second service center to serve the South Florida environmental market including the Palm Beach, Broward and Dade County areas. Unfortunately, in October 2005 , the service center was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma and Elab, Inc. made the business decision not to reopen the facility. However, through couriers, Elab, Inc. offers the convenience of delivering sample kits and sample pickup services for the South Florida Water Management District, many environmental consulting firms and many other clients located in the Southern part of the State.

The five quality principles that we hold as important at ELAB, Inc. are:
Integrity
As an organization, the main virtue we must always offer to our clients is our integrity. Truth in reporting is vital to our success as a Company. It is each employees responsibility to report any violation of the companys ethics policy, which all employees must review and sign as a condition of employment.
Focus on Client Satisfaction (both internal and external)
Our clients are what sustain us as an organization. We have to ensure that we are meeting their reasonable needs and expectations if we hope to maintain long-term stability and growth for our staff. As an organization, were only as good as the weakest link in our chain. If we want our external clients to be satisfied, we must first satisfy the internal clients needs. In this way, as part of the overall fulfillment process for serving our external clients, we must all focus on client satisfaction to ensure on an ongoing basis that the external clients needs are ultimately met.
Respect for People
Its our managements responsibility to provide leadership, guidance and support by demonstrating basic respect for all our employees. We believe that by listening to them, showing respect for their intelligence, and by utilizing their good ideas, it helps our staff come alive in what they do for ELAB, Inc. and its clients.
Plan, Do Check and Act (PDCA)
The competitive laboratory services industry requires us to continually take a look at and improve the key processes we use to serve our clients. We plan what we are going to do, then actually carry out the plan (do it). After that, we check to see how we did in carrying out the plan. If the plan worked out well, we should find out what we did that made the plan work, so we can keep doing things right. If the plan did not work out so well, then we should take the required actions or act to try to get back on track. This simple P-D-C-A process can be a guiding process in how we all manage our daily work at ELAB, Inc.
Management by Fact
Whenever possible, we encourage making decisions based on fact as opposed to gut feel. We can improve the accuracy of our decisions by using available information / data or by collecting the required information, so that we can make well-informed choices.
